Therapeutic Treatment for Anxiety Relief
In order to
prevent anxiety to take control of one’s life it should be treated as soon as possible. Usually the treatment
starts with a physical exam which will help the doctor establish the type of therapy a patient should
undergo.
There are
four main types of therapy through which anxiety can be cured: cognitive-behavioral therapy, anti-depressant
medication, physical exercises and attending support groups. Sometimes two or all these therapies can be combined
for a more effective treatment.
The best
known, and probably the most effective way of dealing with anxiety is by undergoing cognitive-behavioral
therapy. It is a combination of cognitive therapy and behavioral therapy. This type of therapy has good
results both with and without any additional medication.
The main
purpose of cognitive therapy is making people think about their problems and find the cause of their condition.
Also, they are asked to group their worries according to their validity and soundness. In this way they realize
that many of the things which have caused them to worry so much were trifle things which didn’t deserve so much
attention.
On the other
hand, the behavioral therapy tries to fix people’s self-defeating behavior and make them trust the ones around them
again. The anxiety sufferers are encouraged to meditate and to analyze the situations they are afraid from a
different perspective. Also, they are taught to do breathing exercises when they panic. This will help them calm
down and get out of that anxious state.
The
cognitive-behavioral therapy can take several forms, according to the patient’s needs. The better known forms are
the Rational Emotive Therapy and the Rational Behavior Therapy.
Medication is
another way of curing anxiety disorders. However, the anti-anxiety and antidepressant drugs cannot be taken for a
long period of time because they have side effects which may bring further disorder in an anxiety sufferer’s life.
This is why doctors recommend combining the medication with cognitive-behavioral therapy.
Another good
way of forgetting about your problems and stop worrying about every minor issue is to do constant physical
exercise. This is a good way to relax and free the chemicals which are responsible with providing you a good
mood.
The last, but
not least way of overcoming one’s fears is by attending a support group for people who suffer from anxiety
disorders. Although the cognitive-behavioral therapy and appropriate medication cannot be replaced by going to the
meetings of a support group, group therapy has a positive influence upon people who suffer from anxiety. Here
people facing the same problems will get the opportunity to share their experience and find solutions to their
worries.
Anxiety can
really take the fun out of one’s life, that is why the sooner it is addressed, the better. Anxiety can be treated
by undergoing one or several of the above mentioned therapies and anxiety sufferers can fully enjoy life
again.
